One of the most common questions brides ask is when hair and makeup should begin on the wedding morning.
The answer depends on several things, including how many people are getting ready, the ceremony time and how relaxed you want the morning to feel.
After photographing hundreds of weddings, I’ve seen that a thoughtful timeline can make the entire day feel calmer and more enjoyable.
Every wedding morning is different but a few factors can make a big difference:
• number of bridesmaids
• travel time to ceremony
• whether you're doing a first look
• how many hair and makeup artists you have
A little extra buffer time always helps everything run more smoothly.
Here’s a relaxed example for a 2pm ceremony (in the same location)
• 07:30 Hair and makeup begins
• 09:30 Photographer takes photos of details, candids and hair & make up
• 12:00 Hair & Make Up complete
• 12:00 Bridesmaid giggle photos with champagne toasts and gift giving
• 12:30 Bride gets into dress
• 13:00 First Look with Dad
• 13:15 Bridal Portraits / with Bridesmaids & Parents
• 14:00 Ceremony
This allows enough time for photos while keeping the morning calm and unhurried.
The happiest wedding mornings are usually the ones where there is space to breathe.
Build a little extra time into the schedule, enjoy the excitement with your friends and family and remember that the morning is part of the celebration too.
