There’s something I’ve noticed over the years, both in my work and in my own life.
The people who matter most are so often the ones missing from the photos.
Not because they weren’t there.
But because they were the ones taking them.
Growing up, my mum was always the one behind the camera. She captured everything; birthdays, days out, ordinary moments that now feel like gold. She made sure we had something to look back on.
But when I look through those photos now, she’s barely in them.
And I feel that, more than I ever expected to.
Because photos aren’t just about what happened...
They’re about who was there.
Who held you.
Who laughed with you.
Who made everything feel safe and familiar in a way you didn’t even question at the time.
It’s so easy to step back.
To think “I’ll just take this one”
or “I don’t look my best today”
or “this moment is more important than me being in it”
But one day, those photos won’t just be about the moment.
THEY'LL BE ABOUT YOU!
And this is something I gently hold in mind at every wedding.
Not just capturing how it all looked - but making sure the people who matter are in it.
Present.
Seen.
Remembered.
Because years from now, no one is going to care if everything was perfect.
But they will care that you were there.
In the frame.
In the moment.
Part of the story.
So this is your quick reminder:
STEP IN.
HAND THE CAMERA OVER
LET YOURSELF BE PART OF IT
You don’t need to look perfect ~ you just need to be there.
